birthdays

most everyone loves to be remembered on his/her birthday ... what do you do to celebrate? sing to the honoree in bed on birthday morning? leave pictures of the birthday honoree on the kitchen table? make the "birthday person" turn around 10 times if they are ten years old? have friends send cards to grandmother on her 80th? can wait to hear how YOU honor on birthdays! (p.s. Happy Birthday to YOU ... when it is time!) Celebrate! Karen (Moments Publishing)

Create a box of gift cards using blank stationery available at hobby stores. Use family photos of vacations or special moments to paste to the front. Imprint on the back in small letters - photography by.

When I was the single aunt,I wanted to do something special for my nieces and nephew who live in Dallas to create some memories with me. When the first one turned 6, I invited her to Houston for a special "Sixth Birthday Weekend"--a plane ride by herself and few days of fun and special treats. This became a much anticipated right of passage with her younger siblings and it was such a joy for me (and later my husband). It was so sad when the youngest was here for his SBW.....to know he was the last of that generation. We still cherish those memories and they remain a cementing time in my relationship with those kids.

Since we are celebrating birthdays this week, just want to share one tradition that began when the kids were little. We decorate the kitchen with streamers, balloons, and a big birthday sign. We usually do this the night before their birthday so that they are "surprised" in the morning. The table is also covered with a "happy birthday" tablecloth. Many times I thought maybe the kids were too old but they tell me they look forward to the decorations on their birthday morning. We just celebrated our first birthday with my daughter's boyfriend and he was quite surprised to see the decorations yesterday when he came over for his birthday dinner!
