grandparenting ...

grandparenting ... an absolutely fabulous time of life! what have you done AS a grandparent or FOR a grandparent when that new baby is announced? or when that precious grandchild has finally arrived? what special things do the grandchildren do "only" at the grandparents' house? what special gifts have been given TO the grandparents or received FROM the grandparents? how do the grandparents you know share life (make memories!) with the grandchildren? yes ... a wonderful time ... the grandparenting years! signed Queenie (my special grandparent name!)

Each summer my husband and I plan four-day weekends to keep our five grandchildren. One weekend is for the three boys, one is for the two girls and one is with all five. What started as "Grandma and Grandpa's camp" became more appropriately "cousins' camp." Playing Chinese checkers has been a traditional evening game since it was easy to learn, and up to six could play (or two share as a team once the youngest wanted to play). We've now introduced card games with bidding, like Hearts. We laugh a lot and enjoy all being around the table together!

My grandson Connor loves to "travel" with me. Using an atlas or map we select places to go. We decide how we are going to travel- spaceship, helicopter, hot air balloon, dog sled (use your imagination). We select camping or castles, eat beetles or banquets, look for treasure or defend a lost animal. There is no limit to where we go or what we do, we learn about the places we go and have fun using maps and learning.
